Josephine Teo says ok to have 4 breakdowns per lift in Bishan-Toa Payoh every year

It was reported in the papers today (9 Apr) that some 150 angry residents have met and vented their pent-up frustrations at PAP MP Josephine Teo and Sigma Elevator GM Adreana Goh.

For 6 long years, these Natura Loft’s residents in Bishan have to grapple with frequent lift breakdowns. They pelted Ms Teo and Ms Goh questions after questions at a meeting yesterday. Also present were HDB and TC people who seemed to be powerless to do anything.

Natura Loft is a HDB DBSS development in Bishan. HDB tendered the land out to a Chinese developer, Qingjian Realty, to build and sell Natura Loft. Qingjian in turn, picked Sigma to install the lifts in Natura Loft.

MP Teo, who is also the Senior Minister of State in PMO, Foreign Affairs and Transport Ministries, said the lift performance was “unacceptable”.

“We want to bring this number down to four breakdowns per lift per year, which is on par with the rest of the lifts in the GRC,” said Ms Teo.

But she said the data does not suggest that the Sigma lifts need replacing right away as the breakdown rate was not of “an order of magnitude of difference” from the average lift.
