SINGAPORE: In response to a meme that referred to the multiple political scandals that have rocked the boat of Singaporean politics right before the nation’s Presidential Elections, Singaporeans have shared their two cents on the matter.

“Past few months (have been) too exciting,” an online user titled a Reddit post. The netizen also shared a meme joking around about what the NDP planning committee’s reaction must have been following the “multiple political scandals in July,” as the meme put it.

Singapore news has buzzed with multiple trending stories on political leaders in just the past two months. From the Ridout Road rentals to the resignation of government officials in the wake of rumoured affairs, it seems to have been quite a month for Singaporean politics.

Netizens responded to the meme, sharing their sentiments.

“This is a crazy year LOL,” one wrote, listing several hot topics in Singapore. “Inflation, housing and the economy remain [messed up]. GST, SPH, Keppel, TPL x Grab, FAS, plastic bag tax, Ridout, Iswaran, Tan Chuan-Jin, Tan Chuan-Jin…ft Cheng Li Hui, Leon Perera x Nicole Seah…it’s like a single line of We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

“I miss the good old days,” a second wrote, “when the only drama in Singapore was the quality of SIA food.”

Another replied, adding, “And cardboard cartons.”

Still, another wrote, “I just left Reddit for about an hour to troubleshoot some problems in Blender, and then I came back and everything’s on fire.”

Still, one joked, “Got tickets to empty VIP seats now, anyone want?”

Another rode along with the joke, replying, “(Do we) need full white attire to attend?”

While one particular user had the NDP in mind, saying, “NDP gonna be a drama this year, new format, and with fireworks,” another went so far as to tease, “Political fireworks > NDP fireworks.”

The Singapore National Day Parade is held on August 9 every year to celebrate the nation’s independence.

The Reddit thread has garnered over 670 upvotes so far.
