At 12:06 a.m. ET, US President Donald Trump wrote: “Despite the constant negative press covfefe.”
And the word ‘covfefe’ has left the internet guessing on its meaning while it shot to stardom in the ‘meme’ world.
And Trump played around with the word after deleting the initial tweet.
At 6:09 a.m. ET Trump tried to put a playful tone on the misfire, saying, “Who can figure out the true meaning of “covfefe” ??? Enjoy!”
It became a top trend on Twitter, while some users sought clarification from dictionary company Merriam-Webster., wrote the New York Times.
They did not get a definition but did draw a response from @@MerriamWebster which went like this:
“Wakes up. Checks Twitter… Uh…. Lookups fo(r)… Regrets checking Twitter. Goes back to bed,”.
And Trump’s errant midnight tweet has kicked off a marketing blitz of covfefe branded products, said The Journal.
Wall Street Journal said Trump might have meant ‘coverage’ but mistyped and sent it inadvertently.
Nevertheless, the word made it to an online dictionary.
Words with Friends has added the word to its dictionary.
The popular mobile web game defines “covfefe” as “the amount and quality of reporting when autocorrect fails you at 3 am,” The Associated Press reported.
And it made its way to the Urban Dictionary, where users of the site are poking fun at Trump.
In Malaysia, netizens seem to believe he meant ‘coffee’, perhaps because their mobile phone autocorrect mode is showing coffee when they type covfefe!
