Singapore’s footballing icon Fandi Ahmad joined other former Singapore international football legends such as Malek Awab, Nazri Nasir and Aleksandar Duric over the weekend for a good cause at the SGX Cares Bull Charge Charity Futsal held at Kovan Sports Centre.
The charity futsal, last held in 2019, brings together corporate leaders, Singapore ex-internationals and entertainment artists including Mediacorp celebrity father-and-son duo of Zheng Ge Ping and Calvert Tay.
The sporting event saw $111,000 raised, with the target of raising more than S$2 million for beneficiaries this year as registrations for the grand finale Charity Run ramp up.
Beneficiaries that are adopted by SGX Cares for 2022 are; AWWA Ltd., Autism Association (Singapore), Fei Yue Community Services, HCSA Community Services and Shared Services for Charities.
“I enjoy this, and I’m glad to be able to contribute as an ex-player. Thank you, SGX Cares for organising this event and having so many people, even children joining. I hope that we can have more of such events,” said Fandi Ahmad.
The guest of honour was Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community, and Youth played a game of futsal with the SGX team against the footballing legends.
“Joined the SGX Team for a game against some of our football legends, including Fandi Ahmad, Malek Awab and Nazri Nasir. It was indeed a workout as we battled it out on the pitch!” shared Minister Edwin on his Facebook.
“It was great to see so many teams, both corporate sponsors and beneficiaries, coming together for a good cause. I hear there are 34 teams in total.
“Also popped by the youth soccer clinic. It was great to see the kids having fun whilst learning technical and tactical skills.”
To round off the SGX Cares fundraising this year, the 19th annual Bull Charge Charity Run will be held in a hybrid format, with a virtual run starting on 28 October 2022 through to an in-person run that flags off from The Float@Marina Bay on 11 November 2022.
