Two unnatural deaths were reported in separate locations in Bukit Batok on Thursday (June 23). The bodies of a 14-year-old girl and her 84-year-old grandfather were found after police received one alert after another shortly before 6pm that day.
The girl’s body was first found, lying motionless at the foot of the block of Block 115 Bukit Batok West Avenue 6, while her grandfather’s body was at a residential unit along Block 363 Bukit Batok Street 31, around 2 kilometers away.
He had wounds in his chest and was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.
Eyewitnesses at Block 115 who had seen the teenager fall saw her body landing on a grassy part near the housing block, which has 25 storeys in all. No foul play is suspected in her death.
The elderly man and the girl, together with the girl’s parents, lived in the same unit before they died. The grandfather had been residing in the flat for over two decades.
Police say they are investigating whether the deaths are connected.
The man has been identified as a Mr Teo Ah Nee.
The Straits Times reported that cremation halls have been scheduled for both the man and his granddaughter on Saturday (June 25).
A number of the residents in the area were unaware of the double deaths, CNA reported, and those who knew about it had heard about the tragedy on the news.
Some neighbours described the elderly man as friendly and well-dressed whenever he left the flat, adding that he used crutches to help him walk after an operation.
ST also said that contractors disposed of furniture from the unit where the family lived, which included a cabinet that had blood stains on it. There were also blood stains seen on the floor of the unit’s master bedroom.
News reports also say that neighbours saw the girl’s mother in tears on Saturday morning.
