About a dozen police officers attended to Block 165a Teck Whye Crescent this morning as a body was found on the pavement near the block after an alleged early morning commotion.
One of the residents residing in the 3rd floor of the block, a Mdm Hawa, told reporters:
“I was asleep and I heard arguing. I got up and that was when I heard the sound of people running down the staircase followed by more shouting.
“This is not the first time that I’ve heard fighting during the wee hours of the morning. So I went back to bed. But I am shocked when I saw the cordon when I got up later and heard that a body was found.”
Blood stains were spotted near the lift landing and police officers were seen collecting evidence at the block’s fourth floor which had been cordoned off by the police.
The police also reportedly spoke to a shop assistant who works at a convenience store below the block. The woman who did not wish to be named recounted her conversation with reporters at the scene:
“They said a Malay man was involved in a fight and was stabbed at about 4am. They asked me questions but I told them I did not see anything.”
Teck Whye has been in the news for violent crimes at least twice this year. A 47-year-old man was arrested and faces capital punishment over the murder of a medium at a Teck Whye Temple in February this year, while another man was arrested for criminal intimidation after wielding two knives during an altercation at a Teck Whye coffeeshop just last month.
