Darker days for Najib with return of key 1mdb witness

The Sun yesterday reported the return of a key witness in the RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd (1mdb linked) against former Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The witness, on the run, since the Pakatan Harapan government came to power, was brought back to the country last week from Thailand.
The Sun reported the man, who operates a currency exchange business, was tracked down in Bangkok by a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) task force which had been looking for him since May.
The anti-graft officers, with the help of Thai police, persuaded him to return to Malaysia where he was detained by the MACC and placed under a week-long remand.
Reports say the businessman has since pledged to cooperate with the MACC and will be the prosecution’s key witness.

He is suspected of having aided in the transfer of the multi-billion ringgit funds linked to the 1MDB and its former subsidiary SRC International.

“It is believed that the man has vast information on the illegal movement of the funds, both into and out of the country, as his services were engaged by the perpetrators, including the No. 1 person-of-interest, financier Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low,” the Sun reported.

Jho Low and at least one other main actor in the 1mdb scandal is still on the run. Jho Low escaped the Malaysian police after he flew from his hideout in Macau by ferry just before the arrival of the police.

The Malaysian police have been tracking him down with the help of Macau police but the filthy rich businessman has always been one step ahead of them.

He is said to be hiding in the Kitties Islands where there are no extradition treaties either with the US or Malaysia, making it impossible to catch him.

With the return of the key witness in the SRC case, Najib may have a tough time denying all the accusations laid against him.
