Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin shared in his Facebook the story of a woman who sought assistance at his Meet-the-People-Session (MPS) to downgrade to a smaller flat.
She lived alone as her only son had committed suicide. She is in deep financial difficulties and was pawning off her items to get by. She was reluctant to sell her flat, but decided to do so because she needed the money. Her current flat is fully paid for.
The woman was in depression and was seeing a psychiatrist, but the Minister praised her for being resilient. He said that he will get her the financial assistance she needs until her situation inproves.
Mr Tan’s MPS volunteer who was the first to attend to the woman, has also come forward to befriend her.
The Minister did not mention how old the woman is. His Facebook post is here: http://bit.ly/1WjE01D.
