Was it a coincidence that video of Leon Perera and Nicole Seah was released hours before Tan Chuan-Jin and Cheng Li Hui resigned?

Singapore: “What are your thoughts about the coincidence of the video circulating on the internet hours before (former) Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin and (former) MP Cheng Li Hui announced their resignations?” asked a reporter during the Workers’ Party press conference addressing the affair between Leon Perera and Nicole Seah.

Party Chief Pritam Singh paused momentarily before replying: “Anything that I say now will be speculative. I don’t really enjoy speculative narratives given my position, and I don’t want to encourage speculative statements in public from any of my party members. And I would be very concerned if we went down that road”.

“But I think the fact that you are asking that question suggests that it’s on your mind, and I think you’re not wrong; it’s on a lot of people’s minds. But I leave you to draw your own conclusions on the – how shall I put this – uncanny coincidence vis-à-vis timing”.

A 15-second video clip shared on social media on Monday (Jul 17) appeared to show Mr Perera sharing an intimate moment with Ms Seah at an eatery. The man in the video was seen stroking the woman’s hand. This video was released just two hours before then-Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin and then-MP Cheng Li Hui announced their resignations after their own affair came to light. /TISG
