SINGAPORE: When in Singapore, do as the Singaporeans do. Sensibly try to avoid the intense tropical heat as much as possible. But YouTubers Kara and Nate, who have over 3.5 million subscribers, decided to do the opposite, trudging across the country in a walk that lasted almost 12 hours.
However, they earned “massive respect” for their perseverance under the heat. And from their starting place at Woodlands, Kara and Nate ended up in the pool at Marina Bay Sands, which was the sweet reward they said they’d give themselves. An MBS Hotel stay has been their goal since 2016, when they were “broke backpackers” and couldn’t afford the rates.
Their video, posted at the beginning of the month, has since gotten over 1 million views.
And their journey, which should have been only around 18 miles point to point, was, in reality, closer to 23 miles because they took a more circuitous route.
The heat hit them early on, with Nate saying, “sweat dripping into my eyeballs.” They also tried to see if an egg would cook at Sembawang Hot Springs, but it got tossed because it was still raw and runny.
Long story short, while they had hoped to watch the sunset from the hotel, the couple realized it wouldn’t happen, though they did see the light show from a distance after they had gotten to Little India.
As soon as they saw MBS, the couple got excited. Seeing their goal put a new spring into their step, and as soon as they got into the hotel, Kara got enthusiastic about the air-conditioning in the lobby and the prospect of a jump into the pool.
Their total time walked was 11 hours 41 minutes 57 seconds, and the total distance travelled was 22.71 miles.
And they earned many kudos from netizens for braving–and surviving–the heat during their long walk.
