The week that was: COP, GST and politics

The buzzwords for this week have to be the “COP” findings and “GST”. For those whose heads have been buried in the sand, “COP” stands for the Committee of Privileges, who have finally released their findings on the long-running Raeesah Khan lying in Parliament saga.

In sittings that almost resemble reality TV, the public was riveted with the daily “needle in a haystack” interrogations by the Peoples’ Action Party’s (PAP) Edwin Tong on the charismatic Leader of the Opposition, Pritam Singh.

Netizens complain about yong tau foo stalls’ pricing and service

Singapore — A Facebook netizen who related her unhappy experience with a food stall in a group called Complaint Singapore found several other customers who were just as unhappy with the very same yong tau foo stall.

Their dissatisfaction with the operators of this stall at Westgate mall also struck a chord with other Facebook users who had frequented yong tau foo stalls elsewhere.

Mothership’s press accreditation suspended after releasing GST hike info before Lawrence Wong’s announcement

Singapore — The press accreditation of local media outlet Mothership was suspended with immediate effect after breaking an embargo on the Budget 2022 announced on Friday (Feb 18).

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) said that mothership.sg’s press accreditation was suspended after releasing Budget information with “selected media” slightly ahead of Finance Minister Lawrence Wong’s announcements

Singapore Airlines plane ‘drifting’ with expert piloting skills during London safe landing amazes millions of viewers worldwide

Planes landing at Heathrow Airport amid stormy winds became the target of an engaging commentary, garnering millions of views online.”Go on then! Go on!” said British man Jerry Dyer in his video, urging a plane to make a landing.

Included in Dyer’s live stream was a plane from Singapore Airlines making a skilful landing, which got Dyer shouting, “Woaaaah! No way — the swing there.” His shouts were directed at the Boeing 777 SQ306 flight when the plane’s tail swung out upon touch down.
