Singapore ― A construction worker received praise for helping an elderly lady push her trolley filled with cardboard boxes along Potong Pasir.

“This worker went to help the cardboard auntie despite his own troubles. I felt a sense of awe watching this as it told me that there is still hope in humanity,” said a witness to the scene, which happened near a construction site before St Andrew’s Junior College on Monday (Oct 4).

“I also feel that those who are marginalised tend to automatically recognise a need to help when they see it, whereas the more affluent sometimes can’t see it or maybe just don’t want to see it,” said the individual, sharing the footage with Stomp.

“This is exactly what Singapore needs in a time like this <3,” he added.

Kind gestures such as these are often highlighted on social media, garnering appreciation from the online community.

In March earlier this year, a migrant worker was spotted helping an old lady cross the road.

The woman was seen holding onto the man’s arm for support while they walked across.

The initiative has captured the attention of ItsRainingRaincoats (IRR), a non-profit organisation aimed at improving the lives of migrant workers in Singapore.

IRR has since announced that the worker and his mates would be treated to a ride on the Flyer once he is identified.

A similar incident involving an elderly lady pushing a cardboard trolley was also shared online in August, this time with children lending her a helping hand.

Netizens were touched by the scene and offered praise to the group.

“Very beautiful to see how pure the children’s heart is. Kudos to this lady who had led the kids,” commented a netizen. /TISG
