A Singapore netizen posted about his experience online after a bus driver appeared to have forgotten that he and a woman were still on board a bus. The woman screamed at the bus driver and threatened to post about it over social media.
And while the experience was no doubt inconvenient, the netizen expressed that the woman got overly aggressive against the bus driver, whom he believed made an honest mistake.
The Reddit user, conundrumicus, explained he was on Bus 855 en route to Yishun interchange with only the woman at the back of the bus when the lights in the bus and the tap service were turned off.
The woman then asked if the bus driver had forgotten to let them off, and the netizen said, “probably,” but did not take the situation seriously. The woman, however, grew very upset, shouting “Hey, you’re supposed to alight us you know!” in a “super aggressive” tone.
“You didn’t see the others alight? You supposed to alight with them,” the bus driver replied.
This upset the woman even more, and she went to scream and point at him, “This is your job! YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO CHECK! I WILL MAKE COMPLAINT AGAINST YOU!!”
And when the bus driver offered to go further to get to a place where the two passengers could alight, the woman insisted even harder that they be allowed to leave the bus right there and then.
“I was doubtful because the civilian area was abit far, and didn’t know the proper way to walk back from where we are,” the netizen wrote.
But when the netizen asked the driver where the best place would be to alight, the woman started screaming, “Don’t bother, don’t bother, just alight us here right now. ALIGHT US NOW! ALIGHT HERE NOW! NOW! OPEN THE DOOR!”
When the bus stopped and the passengers could alight, they remembered the tap system had yet to be turned on again.
This set the woman off again. “What’s wrong with your system? Hey, turn on the system, I can’t tap out because of you! WHAT IS THIS LA? I WILL TAKE VIDEO AND SPREAD TO SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT YOU!” she told him.
The bus driver then led the two to a safe area where there were others.
The woman, after taking photos of the bus, left the netizen.
Feeling bad about what happened, he tried to look for the bus driver to tell him “that I didn’t agree with the lady and that he didn’t deserve the screaming. I didn’t mind him forgetting to alight us, it doesn’t warrant the lady screaming so aggresively and threatening to post on social media about him,” but he was nowhere to be found.
To end his post, he wrote to both the bus driver and the woman.
To the lady: I agree and understand that the driver forgot to alight us and that how he responded (we should’ve realized and alighted with the others) was a bit with attitude too, but never in a million years would I say that this means he deserved to get shouted, pointed at and threatened by you. I think it was just a small genuine mistake, we were sitting at the back, he could just not see us, it happens. Your attitude was unwarranted, he didn’t deserve it, you should be more understanding and not be so stubborn and aggresive when it’s just a genuine mistake. I stayed silent because I was intimated by you, not that I agreed at all with how your attitude was.
To the bus driver: Hey man, I think you’re alright, it was a genuine mistake, I laughed it off and didn’t mind walking a bit farther to the proper area to alight. I think you don’t deserve the lady shouting at you and I’m sorry that I didn’t stand up to her more explicitly. I don’t agree with how she shouted at you, I wanted to reach out to you to say that it’s alright, I think nothing’s wrong. It’s just one bad individual, I’m so sorry your day is ruined because of her, rest and well and I will personally petition to LTA/SMRT so that you won’t get any displicine if this case went viral or anything due to that lady. I got your back man.
