Malaysia partially lifts chicken ban to allow exports

 

Earlier today, it was announced that Malaysia partially lifted its ban on chicken exports to Singapore. At least one major poultry producer in Singapore getting live kampung chickens from across the Causeway.

Importer, Kee Song Food, posted a TikTok video on June 14 announcing that the Malaysian authorities allowed the company to resume importing live kampung chickens. The importer will be bringing in kampung chickens on Tuesday (Jun 14) and start bringing in black chickens from Malaysia on Saturday (Jun 18).

After Malaysia announced on May 23 that it would ban the sale of chicken to Singapore to ensure sufficient supply for its own citizens, TISG went around asking a number of people how a chicken shortage would affect them, and can they cope without one of Singapore’s best-loved dishes, chicken rice.

The short answer, at least for many people, seems to be “Yes.”

Majority of Singaporeans agree that ‘SG is becoming an unaffordable place to live’ — New Study

A study conducted last month by Blackbox Research showed that many in Singapore are feeling the effects of recent price increases. Over nine in 10 of the survey’s respondents said that inflation has affected their lives and 37 per cent report that the impact has been significant.

Furthermore, the survey showed that 32 per cent of respondents strongly agreed that Singapore is becoming an unaffordable place to live, with 49 per cent somewhat agreeing.

Maid asks: My employer is shifting house, so can I temporarily work at my employer’s friend’s house and sometimes at my employer’s house as well?

In a post to Facebook group FDW in Singapore (working conditions forum), a helper by the name of Lucy Damayanti wrote that since her employer was shifting houses, and would live in a service apartment for a while until they left Singapore, she would be temporarily staying at her employer’s friend’s house.

After her employer leaves Singapore, Ms Damayanti wrote that she would then be transferred to her employer’s friend, as the latter’s current helper was leaving Singapore as well. She added that her work permit was still under her current employer’s name, as they had not yet left Singapore. “but if my employer needs my help I have to come and help them ( that’s mean I have to work for 2 place[s])”, Ms Damayanti wrote, asking if this practice was allowed.

A 45-year-old man whose family was not able to save any money monthly wrote that he felt it was “not right”.

In an anonymous post to popular confessions page SGWhispers on Sunday (Jun 12), the man wrote that he had a 40-year-old wife and three children between the ages of three to ten. The man explained that they were living in a fully paid-up resale five-room HDB flat in Clementi, and that they owned a Japanese car. He added that they each had less than S$30,000 in their Ordinary Accounts (OA).
