Geylang double deaths: Woman was allegedly a victim of spousal abuse

The couple who died at Silverscape condominium located at Geylang Lorong 32, have been identified as Zhang Tian Yao (43) and Li Shi Qiu Zhuang (31). The incident happened on 30th of April 2017 at 11.55am. They were both pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Chinese Daily reported that the couple were married for 10 years and were in the midst of filing for a divorce. The woman who died is a Singapore Permanent Resident from Vietnam, and worked as a masseuse. She was allegedly pushed off the 8th floor by Zhang who is a Singaporean. He died by suicide after pushing her off the apartment.

A close friend of the Li told the Daily that the woman was earning up to $1,000 a night working as a masseuse in Orchard Towers from 11pm till the following next morning every day. According to the friend, after working for a year, Li had earned enough to rent her own space in Orchard Towers to start her own massage parlour.

The friend also mentioned that Li wanted to divorce her husband because they had stopped loving each other. He would allegedly also beat his wife when they argued and she had scars on her body from the attacks.

According to those interviewed by the newspaper, the couple were quarrelling before the fatal incident happened. The couple leave behind 2 young children.
