Carrie Wong, 28, a Singaporean actress, shared her experiences in the limelight industry in a recent interview with 8 Days. She was asked what it was like to grow up in this kind of world – wherein the public is constantly watching.

“I feel like I have changed in a way where I now know how to behave in front of other people,” the 28-year-old stated. She added that despite being herself, she had matured a lot. Her thoughts became very different. “I feel that this industry, this environment, is a place that will force you to grow up regardless of whether you want it or not… It’s a very cruel place,” she exclaimed.

She mentioned that she never really liked growing up in front of everyone – how tiny things, both good and bad, get magnified in public. However, regardless of this aspect, she enjoys her work of performing, acting, understanding scripts, and building her character.

“This is something that I really enjoy, and I have made a lot of good friends and learnt a lot of good lessons. So at the end of the day, I don’t feel like I regret it ‘cos it’s a good life,” she remarked.

When asked if she was always pressured to show the best version of herself, the actress said that she is ‘pretty much’ herself all the time. She knows that being in the spotlight entails a certain kind of image that she must put ahead, and she eventually learns how to face the public.

Carrie made her debut in the showbiz business last 2014 when she won third place in the beauty pageant Hey Gorgeous. She was 20 years old back then. The actress is one of Mediacorp’s well-known artists, and she has already starred in numerous projects, such as Tang Shui Mei in The Journey: Tumultuous Time, and Luo Mingyi in A Quest to Heal.

She had the opportunity to shine her light as someone who had only been in the industry for eight years.
