In a tweet yesterday evening, Cherian George, Professor in the Department of Journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University, made a comment about inequality, fake news and early intervention.

He said, “#Singapore is belatedly and halfheartedly trying to address inequality. But government-friendly Straits Times, which has been pontificating about #fakenews, now says Singapore invented early intervention”.

In this, he made three remarks all addressing different things.

The first, about Singapore’s insufficient attempts to achieve an equitable distribution of wealth within the nation.

The second, about the Straits Times and its political stance.

And lastly, about how, according to the Straits Times Singapore “Singapore invented early intervention”.

Netizens were surprisingly quiet.
