The Ministry of Education (MOE) appears to have gotten the date of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States of America wrong, in an interactive National Education (NE) Quiz. A photo of the quiz shared by reddit user u/WhereBryant shows that MOE staff erroneously listed that the attacks occurred in 2011 instead of 9 Sept 2001.
The question asked: “What economic impact did the terrorist attack in the United States of America on 11 September 2011 have on Singapore?”
Students could chose between the following three answers: 1) There was increased expenditure by the government on security measures; 2) Singapore lost a lot of earnings as the government stopped allowing tourists into the country; or 3) Singaporean businesses had to close down as they could no longer invest in the United States of America.
It does not seem like the question was a deliberate trick question.
Primary 6 and Secondary 4 students are typically the target users of the NE Quizzes – interactive quizzes administered by the MOE that uses a game format to educate students. Users are tasked with answering multiple choice questions while playing games like Grid Defenders and Reboot, on their web browsers.
MOE teachers and administrators input the questions on the quizzes, that run on the Unity3D game engine, and are able to manage the content of the quizzes and the results their students achieve on the games content management system easily.
