A video of an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer valiantly putting out a fire at Woodlands Checkpoint has been circulating social media and Whatsapp messenger.
In the video, a white car catches fire and an ICA officer can be seen walking up to it with a fire extinguisher and he successfully manages to put out the flames.
A person can be seen taking a video of the incident but immediately rolls up his window as the fire is extinguished.
The incident occurred while the car was travelling towards Johor Bahru, at about 11.30pm last night.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was alerted to incident the vehicle fire at around 11.30pm, and that the fire was already extinguished prior to their arrival.
Staff sergeant (SSgt) Muhammad Miftahul Khair Ahmad, 34, told The Straits Times that he was carrying out traffic management duties when he saw smoke coming from the white Kia.
He said, “I quickly alerted the driver and the passenger to get out of the car and stay a safe distance away. My instant reaction was to get the fire extinguisher and put out the fire before it spreads”.
He also added, “I was glad that I had stopped the fire in time to prevent injuries to checkpoint users”.
There were no injuries reported from the incident, and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
