Car Engulfed in Flames on PIE, No Injuries Reported

A car burst into flames after being in an accident with two other cars on Pan Island Expressway (PIE).  No one was injured or killed in the accident or the fire, which is now under investigation by the police.

The SCDF (Singapore Civil Defense Force) first learned about the fire and vehicular accident at 8:55 pm, in a report of a vehicular fire along the PIE towards Tuas after Clementi Ave 6. A water jet was used to put out the fire.

The driver of the first car reportedly lost control after he had applied the brakes, which caused the car to turn 180 degrees. Meanwhile, the driver of the car behind him braked when he saw the first car going in his direction, but a third car hit the second one from behind when he was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision.

This caused the first and second cars to collide head on. Luckily, everyone in the three cars were able to exit quickly, since the third car burst into fire. Apparently, it was the front engine of the car that ignited first.

Netizen Mohd Irwan Rashid posted a video on Facebook showing the third car completely in flames.

Although cars understandably slowed down at the site of the accident, no traffic jams occurred as a result of it. By 9:07 pm, the Land Transport Authority first notified the public concerning the accident via tweet, telling motorists to stay away from the lane one on PIE towards Tuas after the Clementi Ave 6 exit. A few minutes later, the LTA asked the public not to use lanes one and two in this area.

Another netizen, Benjamin Edmund Yang, posted photos of the accident. The photos showed that the car caught in the middle of the collision sustained considerable damage in its back section.

In comments on social media, some netizens asked about the make and model of the car that had burst into flame.

Others wondered if the netizens who had taken and uploaded the videos would cause a greater traffic jam than the incident itself.
