Singapore Airlines flight SQ9016 avoided a nasty crash at Incheon International Airport, South Korea, on 5 May (Thursday). The flight was headed for San Francisco and was forced to stop suddenly when a Korean Air KE929 headed for Saint Petersburg suddenly appeared on the runway.
The Korean Air made a runway incursion without clearance. Several tyres on the San Francisco bound plane were damaged by the plane’s emergency braking, delaying departure by 19 hours.
There were 186 passengers onboard the Singapore Airlines flight and 188 on the Korean Air. South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said that it was investigating the near-crash and will release its report in two to three weeks.
