‘It’s your condo problem not the driver’s’ — Netizens tell man who complained Grab charging him 3 times for going over grace waiting period

A man wrote that he had been charged the waiting time penalty imposed by Grab three times already; writing that “the root cause is the Grab driver claiming that they are driving and have no time to check their messages.”

He included screenshots of his messages with the driver, which showed the driver writing he had not been allowed to enter the premises at the man’s condominium.

Writing into crowdsourced news site Stomp, Mr Daryl explained the situation.

“This is the third time I’ve been charged with the three minutes waiting time penalty. The root cause is the Grab driver claiming that they are driving and have no time to check their messages.

Upon reaching my condo, the security guard refused them until the Grab driver was able to specify where to pick up. Saying ‘pickup’ is not enough.

I gave feedback to the MCST (a condominium’s managing body) and they have the cheek to tell me it is best to choose pickup outside the condo. I told them they are brainless. If it is raining and we have a big luggage will you still choose your pickup point outside the condo?”

In July, Grab announced it was cutting down its grace period wait time from five minutes to three minutes, charging passengers S$3 beyond three minutes of waiting for most ride types.

The grace waiting period for JustGrab, GrabPet, GrabFamily, GrabCar, GrabCar Plus and GrabCar Premium is three minutes, with a S$3 charge per five-minute waiting block.

The grace waiting period for GrabCoach is 10 minutes, with a S$10 charge per 10-minute waiting block.

Commenters on Mr Daryl’s post appeared to believe that the issue lies with the condominium management.
