A Tweet showing a dog resting on top of a sack of dog food in a convenience store went viral last Sunday (Feb 27). What’s the big deal here?

The dog had run into  a 99 Speedmart outlet in Malaysia seeking shelter from a thunderstorm and the staff were praised for allowing the stray to wait out the storm.

The photo showing the stray lying on top of the bag of dog food on a bottom  shelf  in the store was posted last week on the 47000 Sungai Buloh Official Facebook group by a netizen named Aqluq Hakimi Saiful Aula.

Said Mr Aqqluq: “I was shopping for items and suddenly saw it. The Speedmart employee said the loud thunder scared the dog, that’s why it ran to hide here.”

Apparently, this is not the first time that the doggo sought shelter there,  the staff told Mr Aqluq. The stray already knows he won’t be turned away. “Each time there is thunder and heavy rain, it will go into the store to hide, poor thing.”

The post was then shared on Twitter by @nabilfikran, who goes by the handle Bella Hadidn’t., who wrote in Malay:“I will always pray for those who do good deeds to stray animals to enter heaven.”

Well over 25,000 people have since liked the tweet, and more than 12,000 have shared it.

Several commenters took the opportunity to appeal to others to show compassion to animals, especially in such situations.

Many saluted the store’s staff.

Other netizens wrote that Speedmart is known to be animal friendly.
