A passer-by stepped in and lent a timely hand during an especially difficult tussle between four police officers and a suspect on the run.

The incident, which took place in Woodlands, occurred outside a coffee shop along Woodlands Drive 50.

The man that the police were chasing after was rowdy and resisting arrest.

A two-and-a-half-minute video filmed by another passer-by at the scene showed the police attempting to stop the man and trying to talk to him, but he kept walking away.

Under the HDB block, despite a male and a female police officer cornering him, the man still tried to evade arrest.

The suspect then became more aggressive just after the one-minute mark, shouting in Chinese, “What is the meaning of this? I am going to the toilet now!”

The incident happened on September 7 and it was only after another two police officers arrived that they were able to hold the man. However, the four officers were still struggling to pin the man down to handcuff him.

Meanwhile, an Indian man who had been observing the scene from close-by came forward.

He grabbed the suspect by the head and wrestled him down, knocking against the shelf behind him in the process, while shouting “Get him down!” repeatedly at the police officers.

After the suspect was pinned on the floor, the passer-by moved off as the suspect was held down and eventually handcuffed.

Many who commented online praised the passer-by for his quick action, with others empathizing that the police officers were bound by protocol.
