The heartwarming TikTok of how one family lovingly said goodbye to their helper of over two decades went viral on TikTok earlier this week. Ms Clara Chen posted a tribute video to their Indonesian helper, Ms Anik, who had been with her family for twenty years.
She wrote,” We love you and thanks for taking care of us for so many years!”
The video shows Ms Chen and her family and other relatives gathering together to say goodbye to Ms Anik. The helper was given a “20 years long service award” amid cheers and hugs from family members.
@lifeonthe17th A tribute to our helper, Anik! We love you and you will always be a part of us ❤️ #tiktoksg #fyp #sghelper #tiktokindonesia
Ms Anik expressed her thanks to the Tan family, for, among other things, being a “2nd family” to her, amid even more cheers.
The matriarch thanked Ms Anik for her “service to the house” and “for taking care of my children from small till now.”
Ms Chen added old pictures of Ms Anik growing together with the family.
This moved the helper to tears.
Ms Chen’s mother then told her, “Don’t cry! You’re going to be big boss in Indonesia! God will bless you and that’s the most important thing.”
They also gave Ms Anik a new Samsung phone that night and gathered together again at the airport to see her off.
The helper flew home with her sister, who also worked in Singapore for 22 years.
The video ended with Ms Anik waving goodbye to board her plane.
Ms Chen wrote, “Bye sister! I won’t cry so much because I know we will meet again.”
The video has been seen over 230,000 times since it was posted, and netizens have praised Ms Chen’s family for their touching send-off for Ms Anik.
