SINGAPORE: A 63-year-old Singaporean man suffered minor injuries after being caught in a chaotic scene when a car drove into a crowd near Liverpool’s city centre, shortly after the football club’s title celebrations.
Pandiyan was part of a 35-member fan tour group from Singapore that had flown to the UK to celebrate Liverpool FC’s recent title victory. The incident occurred as the group made its way through the city following the celebrations.
According to Pandiyan, the moment was both sudden and terrifying. “The crowd in front of me suddenly started screaming, and then I saw people jumping to the left and right. Then suddenly I saw the car in front of me, very close to me. It scratched my arms and calves, and the wheels ran over my shoes,” he told 8World.
He escaped more serious injuries by jumping to the side just in time. “I’m just glad I reacted fast enough,” he said, adding that he only suffered abrasions on his hand and pain in one foot.
Other members of the tour group reported confusion and disruption in the immediate aftermath of the crash. The nearby train station was temporarily closed, leaving large numbers of people stranded.
The high volume of mobile users in the area reportedly caused network disruptions, making it difficult for stranded fans to communicate or arrange transportation.
