Singapore — A man driving a Mercedes-Benz got into an argument with a rider using a personal mobility device (PMD) on Wednesday afternoon (Feb 2) in Lorong 4 Toa Payoh.
The driver of the Mercedes, a private hire vehicle, then reportedly knocked down the gate of the Victory Family Centre, a woman who saw the incident told Shin Min Daily News.
After that, the driver is said to have backed is car into the PMD. The front of the car was left with several scratches.
The police were alerted about a rash act involving the motorist and a PMD rider, and the motorist was arrested.
Fortunately, there seemed to be no injuries resulting from the spat or the altercation and the knocking down of the gate.
Investigations are said to be ongoing.
Shin Min Daily News also spoke to the PMD rider, who gave his name as Mr Harun. He said he had been on his way to pick up an order from a nearby restaurant when he encountered the Mercedes Benz at a crosswalk about 25m from the Victory Family Centre entrance.
Mr Harun said he was about to cross when the driver tried to get ahead of him.Aware that he had priority in crossing, he spoke to the driver.
He told Shin Min Daily News that he was “very angry.” The two men next encountered each other in front of Victory Family Centre’s technical support centre. This time, the PMD rider passed the car as it was entering.
That’s when the Mercedes is said to have lunged towards the PMD. Mr Harun told Shin Min: “I didn’t expect the car to suddenly rush forward towards me when I was passing by the entrance of the building, but I managed to dodge it before it hit the gate and knocked it down.”
The driver then backed up into the PMD. Mr Harun said that he does not want to take this any further since the police are already involved, especially since he was “not seriously affected”.
Last month, in another incident involving a luxury car, the driver of a Bentley came close to running down a school’s security officer who was trying to prevent him driving into the compound of the school.
