Mr Harith Iskander is well-known as a comedian, and yet many netizens did not find a recent social media post to be very funny.
Some commenters did not take too kindly to the comic’s young son being told to leave their home as a disciplinary measure, and his post, as they say, blew up, with thousands of commenters weighing in.
On Oct 12, the comic posted on Facebook that after his oldest son, nine-year-old Zander, left his online Maths class and did not want to return to it, he asked his wife, Dr Jezamine Lim, to discipline the boy, since Mr Harith has been said to be “too harsh” on Zander in the past.
“At home I am the disciplinarian. And I am hardest on my oldest, Zander. (because the rest will follow what he gets away with),” he wrote.
But Dr Lim ended up surprising her husband. “I thought at most he will kena marah sikit (get a little scolding)… but Dr Jezamine Lim was not playing around and s#it hit the fan!”
Young Zander was told to “’pack his belongings’ and ‘get out’ until he understands what he did wrong.”
The comic posted photos of his son sitting by himself on what looked like a park bench in the evening hours.
“Just look at that face!,” he wrote, adding, “I have NEVER thrown him out.
He took a box(?) and packed it with his favourite shirts, a pair of shoes and his bicycle. Not sure where he was planning to ride to tengah malam though.
I think next time we will ask to go back to Daddy’s discipline style.”
And while Mr Harith obviously found much humour in the whole situation, some netizens were not quite in agreement with the child being asked to leave. Others were concerned that Zander’s discipline had been made public.
For others, Zander’s “public humiliation” was a troublesome issue.
A number of commenters urged Mr Harith and his wife to have a heart-to-heart talk with Zander to make sure he’s all right.
However, there were also those who supported the type of discipline Zander received.
