Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong was spotted at hotspots for pet dogs last weekend, even though he has publicly admitted that he’s “not a dog fan”.

On Sunday afternoon (20 Oct), the former Prime Minister made an appearance at a Best Dressed Dogs’ competition in Koon Seng Park. He met a couple who had dressed their dog as a “politician” at the event. The dog was clad in a white shirt with an orchid garland wrapped around its neck.

Sharing photos of himself with the dog and its owners, ESM Goh wrote on Facebook: “At the Best Dressed Dogs’ competition in Koon Seng Park, this couple said that theirs is a “politician” dog but not affiliated to any party. Unfortunately, it did not win any prize. The recently married couple have just moved into Marine Parade.”

Later that same day, the ruling party politician visited West Coast Park Dog Run. The politician, who had facilitated the installation of an enclosed dog run area in a park at his constituency in Marine Parade GRC, revealed that he has asked the National Parks Board (NParks) to explore setting up a Dog Run in East Coast Park:

“Checked out West Coast Park Dog Run. Have asked NParks to explore setting up a Dog Run in East Coast Park. Hope it will be realized.”

In January this year, ESM Goh revealed that he is is not a fan of dogs because of traumatic experiences involving two separate dogs in his youth. He had shared then that he is actually “not a dog fan because I was bitten by a neighbour’s dog and chased by another mongrel when young!” /TISG
