Singapore ― A post by an “angsty” doctor in Singapore has made its way around the Internet, going viral.

The post, published on popular reddit thread r/SingaporeRaw was titled: ‘A Rant from an Angsty Medic’. In it, someone who has been working as a doctor for a few years now said that “the healthcare system has never been this strained”.

“We’re over 100% capacity in our medical department, investigations and treatment are taking longer and there is a constant fear that one of us may get COVID”, the doctor wrote.

They added that several of their friends were also serving Quarantine Orders (QO) for being exposed to Covid-19 cases, further decreasing the manpower in hospitals.

The doctor added that they wrote the post not because of a manpower shortage, but because they have had “to deal with one angry family after another”. They explained that hospitals were “bursting at the seams, resources and staffing is limited and the system tends to prioritise sicker patients first”.

Calling for more empathy towards healthcare workers, the doctor wrote: “So before you yell in my face or on the phone for the umpteenth time about how I’m being slow, or that I should have done this or that, or told you this and that – can you just for a moment think about what the whole system is going through, how strained we are, and how maybe we might be prioritising sicker patients and not have to deal with every single little request you or your family has?”

Netizens who commented on the post blamed the government and the current policies to deal with the current Covid-19 situation in Singapore.
