At 1:47 am on Friday, June 15, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle along Geylang Road towards Kallang Road. The 37-year-old man was shortly after brought to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, but later died as a result of the accident.
There was initially some confusion concerning who hit the man, since netizen Paul Chua uploaded photos of the scene of the accident to Singapore Smart Taxi Drivers Facebook page, along with the caption, “Accident on Geylang Rd Pedestrian knocked down by Trailer Truck. Drive Carefully 15/06/2018, 1.45 am,” which alleged that a trailer truck was responsible for the mishap that ended in the man’s death.
However, another netizen, Amilia Hamid Amy reposted Mr. Chua’s post on ROADS.sg’s Facebook page, claiming that she was among the people in the trailer truck, and that they were not responsible for the accident. She said that it was a passenger van, also in the photos, who struck the pedestrian.
She claimed that the driver of the van did nothing to assist the fallen pedestrian, but that she and her companions used their trailer to block traffic so they could assist the victim.
She also asked Mr. Chua why he did not help with controlling the traffic and to determine the facts correctly, and not assume to know what really happened.
Mr. Chua later on modified his post to read, “Van knock down pedestrian….. Up ambulance…..”
The police have said that the driver of the van/minibus is cooperating with their investigations.
