A Facebook user Theng Wei Gan is unhappy that the City Harvest Church is appealing for donation for one of its members. He feels that the mega-church can well afford to help him without appealing to the public for help.
The Facebook user shared a screengrab of a Whatsapp message with the caption: “Am I being too mean? Why is CHC appealing for donation for this poor gentleman? The church can well afford to help him financially, instead of asking for more money.”
The communications arm of the Church, City News, published the story of 26-year-old Kevin Wong who has a heart condition and is waiting for the heart transplant. Mr Wong who works as a service engineer has been waiting for a heart transplant for 5 years. His heart works efficiently now only because of the implant of a medical device which better regulates its heartbeat. Mr Wong has been a member of the Church for seven years.
Wong suffered a setback two months ago when a blood vessel in his brain burst unexpectedly. He survived only because he was treated on time at a hospital, and is now recovering from the surgery.
His medical condition and the various surgeries have set Mr Wong’s family back by $18,000. The Church said: “Wong’s desire is simply that readers will pray for him to be in good health, and to receive a new heart soon.
