english-expat-asking-if-she-can-rent-“old-village-houses”-near-marina-bay-draws-snarky-responses-online

A woman asking in an expat forum in Facebook if she can rent “old village houses” near Marina Bay has drawn the ridicule of some social media users. According to her Facebook profile, the woman is originally from England and is now living in Macau.

One Twitter user responding to the post asked:

“Walking space for dogs?
“Not far from MBS?
“Old Village House?
“How about Istana Woodneuk. Guess that satisfies all requirements”

Istana Wooden York is an abandoned two-storey palace at the former Tyersall Park, bounded by Holland Road and Tyersall Avenue, near the Singapore Botanic Gardens in Singapore. Before it was rebuilt in 1935 it was known as Istana Woodneuk. It suffered a major fire in 2006 and has been deemed beyond repair.

Other Twitter users were equally snarky.

One Facebook user responding to the post said, “It’s funny…. in the year 2022… i can’t believe that there are people who think Singapore is still the cheap fishing village…”
