A 31-year-old man who lost his job found that he was only left with S$200 after applying for a house.
The man wrote that “in Singapore everything is so expensive”. He added that he had saved up around S$65,000 and “currently in the middle of the process applying for a house and everything involve $$”. As such, he wrote, that he was only left with around $200 to tide himself over until he found another job.
The man, who said that he had a partner from a wealthy family, felt that she was putting a lot of pressure on him financially. “Getting married in Singapore is costly and the next step you need to get a ring. Follow by engagement ring > wedding ring > wedding > renovation cost > household appliances. All this adds up would be around $100k or even more”, he wrote.
He explained that he was from a middle-income family and was not able to do anything more financially. She was not his dream girl, he added, but she had been there for him and is “super sweet but not so understanding at times”.
“Is it fair for couples to take steps to save and open a banking account to save up for plans and be sure we have enough $$ before we can settle down and pay”, the man asked for advice, adding that he was studying to be able to make money in future.
Here’s what netizens said to the man. Most were not in favour of his partner, and they added that she seemed demanding and spoiled.
