This publication has heard from reliable source that major changes are underway in Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and that these changes will be announced on Thursday (13 October 2016).

According to the source, about 300 – 400 staff (mainly freelancers and part-timers) will be retrenched by the media company. And also, the freesheet MyPaper will be merged with the tabloid The New Paper. The New Paper which now retails at 70-cents a paper will be available as a freesheet after the merger.

We have written to Mr Patrick Daniel, the Deputy CEO of SPH (English Publications) to enquire about these information we have received and will keep our readers posted once we receive a reply.

Update: Mr Daniel replied that SPH does not respond to speculations.
