A photo of Singapore Girl Barbies has gotten online users talking. While a handful made comments about the dolls’ style, a few zeroed in on their hair, with one user even making a comparison to the infamous Rosmah Mansor.
On Sunday (Oct 16), an online user took to an online news forum to share a photo of two Barbies with a label that read “Singapore Girl Barbie”. The two dolls were styled in traditional Singaporean airline uniforms–one blue and another green.
According to another online user who left a comment, the photo is from the Barbie Exhibition at ION Orchard Road, Level 4.
On the other hand, another online user commented on the fact that the figures representing Singaporean women had rather long necks. “It kinda creeps me out, not gonna lie,” said another.
Others made comments about the dolls’ hair. “What’s up with the auntie hair?” asked one. Another took it further by making reference to a well-known name, writing, “What is with that Rosmah hair?”
Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, has quite a reputation for her extravagance and luxury. The infamous pair was the centre of the well-known 1MDB scandal.
“(The) 1980s were all about big hair, big shoulder pads, and well, larger than life bigger,” explained another user.
More than 600 Barbies are being showcased at the House of Dreams Barbie Exhibition at the ION Art Gallery. People can visit for free from 10am –10pm until Oct 21.
