From June 1, 2018, Singapore will have a new Director of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Florence Chua Siew Lian. At the same time, SAC Chua will be also appointed as Deputy Commissioner (Investigations and Intelligence).
She is the first female Director of CID and Deputy Commissioner of Police.
SAC Florence Chua Siew Lian has been with the SPF for 29 years, having been a member of Singapore’s Police Force since 1989. She is at present the Director of Police Intelligence Department (PID). Previously, she held the positions of Deputy Director of CID and Commander of Jurong Police Division. A pro-active member of the PID, SAC Florence Chua Siew Lian led in dismantling groups involved in organized crime, and pursued syndicates and moneylenders without licenses. In this light, she was also responsible for cracking down on the biggest syndicate for illegal betting. This landmark case was the very first that was prosecuted under the Organised Crime Act. SAC Florence Chua Siew Lian has been very successful in combining police work at the forefront with intelligence initiatives, which has led to better methods in fighting crime.
SACFlorence Chua Siew Lian replaces Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Tan Chye Hee, who has been with the SPF for a quarter of a century, starting from 1992. DC Tan Chye Hee had also been the Director of Planning and Organisation Department, Director of PID and Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, among other achievements. In his capacity as Deputy Commissioner (Investigations and Intelligence) and Director of CID, DC Tan Chye Hee spearheaded his department’s initiatives in fighting against cyber crime and other types of crime, improved investigative methods and the care for sexual crime victims.
