SINGAPORE: A man who took to social media to compare the dating world and the employment world concluded that they were the same.

In an anonymous post to popular confessions page NUSWhispers, the man wrote that those looking for a beautiful woman would have to spend money to go “go on vacations, eat great food, receive gifts. In addition we also look at the prospective-in-laws, will the guy be able to buy a nice condo, own nice car, will the parents be able to help? Once again, it is not us being materialistic but the nature of life”. He added that guy would need looks, wealth – or the potential to earn -, and personality. He added: “even when you go for a job interview, you look at the starting pay and the potential for increment”.

“you have to be realistic. if you are average, settle for a even slightly (sic) more average girl. someone who is willing to bto a 3 room hdb with you. but even then 10 years down the road, the girl will start to complain and compare you to her friends’ husband, like you complain your employer isnt paying you enough”, the man wrote.

One netizen commented on his post: “Lemme give you the flipside of this equation. If you want the top 10% of men, are you competitive in this domain? Or are you hyper-competitive that they will choose commitment to you over having their harem? Are you emotionally clever enough that you can discern what he says is what he does? You have two options as a female. One is commitment from an average guy (who has less options). Two is being one of many options for a top-tier guy. And you have a very short window of opportunity to make that choice. If you are indecisive in this, even your “average guy” option will become elusive when you age”.

Another added: “Your perception creates your reality….If you perceive the world as materialistic, demanding, money hungry, then your reality would be just that. Change the way you see things and the things you see change”. /TISG
