One man wrote that he decided to work as a food delivery rider on weekends to find out why they are “always stressed”. His takeaway: People need to stop the “entitled attitude” of asking riders to cancel orders after they’ve confirmed because it’s the riders who have to deal with the consequences.
Netizen Hersy Shey wrote on the COMPLAINT SINGAPORE Facebook page on Tuesday (May 10) that while customers who place orders may cancel them and then ask for refunds, it’s a completely different story for delivery riders. “You people need to understand that delivery personnel cannot cancel orders after accepting it and picking it up,” he wrote.
Also, when customers put in a wrong address and want to change it, Mr Shey wrote that “delivery personnel cannot deliver to a different address especially if the rider is on Grab shift.”
In situations such as these, customers must cancel the orders completely, or they end up at the wrong place.
In these cases, Mr Shey added, “the rider cannot cancel it. In the rare event that he can, he will be penalised (i.e. in terms of money).”
Therefore, when customers are at fault and/or want to cancel their orders, they have to do it themselves, and should not ask the rider to do it.
To put it simply, Mr Shey wrote,
“If you cancel it = refund
If rider cancels it = he will get penalised.”
Customers get refunds from GrabFood almost immediately, and with Foodpanda, it takes a while longer, when they cancel orders.
He then added, “Please stop it with this entitled attitude. We are Asians. We subscribe to Confucian values. We are better. Stop being influenced by selfish Western thinking.”
A number of netizens commenting on the post agreed with Mr Shey.
One wrote, “Unless you’ve been there, you can never understand how tough it is with peopling. Haha.”
Others showed concern for delivery riders.
Some netizens, however, took exception to Mr Shey’s statement about Asians subscribing to Confucian values.
Others appreciated the clarification about cancelling orders.
