Kuala Lumpur ― Netflix’s Sex Education is clearly a hit among Malaysians as proven by the fact that the show is in the top 10 spot of Netflix Malaysia’s charts.

The third season of the hit show was released last Friday (Sept 17) after a much-anticipated wait.

The popular series follows the lives of a group of students studying in the Moordale Secondary School as they face a new set of challenges in school and their personal lives.

In Episode Five of the latest season, some eagle-eyed Malaysian (who have binged Season Three) may have noticed a familiar face.

Zoey Phoon, a Malaysian digital creator and social media influencer who is based in the UK was cast as an extra on Sex Education.

The influencer who is known as Zoeypky to her fans was featured in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it-moment, according to The Star.

The start of Episode Five opens with a returning character from Season Two, Viv played by Chinenye Ezeudu, using the public toilet during a school field trip to France. As she walks towards the sink to wash her hands, Phoon can be seen walking past her, dressed in a red jacket.

Back in July 2020, the series was looking for extras after production had been halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic causing delays.

Phoon posted on her Instagram story to share her excitement on the brief cameo. She also re-posted several stories from her friends and fans who were quick to notice her in the scene.

Many are curious about how Phoon snagged the job. She revealed that she had seen advertisements in the UK that the series was searching for extras, and she jumped at the opportunity despite submitting her details way past the deadline. Two days later, she received news that she was accepted, as reported by Hype.my.

An overjoyed Phoon said, “There was no audition, all I had to do was send in my pictures, inform them of my availability and let them know of any other relevant experiences that I have had.

I have done TV adverts before both in Malaysia and the UK. Since this was my first ever cameo in a big TV show, I was really excited and happy to be accepted and featured in the show. Since I was a student [during that time], I was also excited about the pay.” /TISG
