Keppel Changi

SINGAPORE: Keppel’s infrastructure division has secured a 20-year contract to provide centralised cooling systems (CCS) for three new build-to-order (BTO) housing projects in Tengah, awarded by the Housing and Development Board (HDB).

According to The Edge Singapore, this contract will benefit around 3,500 households in the upcoming developments, namely Brickland Weave, Plantation Edge I & II, and Plantation Verge.

In a statement released on Sept 30, Keppel confirmed its partnership with HDB to deliver CCS to each home. The cooling system transports chilled water from centralised chillers installed on the rooftops of selected HDB blocks to cool the flats.

Keppel said it will implement innovative engineering and design features and industrial-grade materials to meet industry standards.

Once the CCS is installed, it will connect to Keppel’s Operations Nerve Centre (ONC), allowing for remote control and real-time monitoring of the cooling systems.

Tan Meng Dui, CEO of HDB, welcomed Keppel’s involvement, stating, “We are glad to welcome a well-established player like Keppel on board as a CCS service provider for future BTO projects.

With more market players participating in the provision of CCS services in a public housing setting, we hope to further strengthen the industry’s capabilities and deepen the CCS ecosystem, to make HDB living highly liveable and sustainable.

Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel’s infrastructure division, was also “pleased” with the contract. She pointed out Keppel’s over 20 years of experience meeting cooling needs for various sectors, including business parks, commercial offices, hotels, and data centres.

Keppel is well-placed to work hand-in-hand with HDB to provide high-quality and modern cooling solutions to homeowners,” she said.

Including assets in development, Keppel boasts a total cooling portfolio of more than 260,000 refrigeration tonnes in the region. The contract will unlikely affect Keppel’s earnings per share (EPS) or net tangible assets (NTA) per share for this financial year. /TISG
