Johor unveils economic transformation plan for Batu Pahat with Advanced Manufacturing Park proposal and RM3.78 million in priority projects

JOHOR: Johor Menteri Besar Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi has presented the Johor State Economic Transformation Plan (JETP) for Batu Pahat district during a working visit. In a Facebook post, he outlined a strategy to position the district as a hub for high-value manufacturing, Industry 4.0 talent development, and improved logistics connectivity.

A highlight of the economic proposals is a proposed Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) designed to attract high-value manufacturing industries to Batu Pahat, seeking to complement Johor’s industrial development push under the JS-SEZ framework while extending economic momentum beyond the Iskandar Puteri corridor into the state’s southern districts.

According to the same update, the JETP for Batu Pahat also emphasised automation, Industry 4.0 skills development, and strengthening logistics networks connecting the district to the NSE-WCE corridor. These infrastructures are expected to improve Batu Pahat’s integration into Johor’s supply chain ecosystem, making it more competitive as an investment destination in its own right.

Funding and community initiatives

The State Government has approved RM3.78 million (S$1.19 million) for the implementation of 25 priority projects across the Batu Pahat district.

An allocation of RM500,000 has also been set aside to support community activities across more than 100 associations and organisations in Batu Pahat, including the Tionghua community associations Dato’ Onn Hafiz met during a lunch gathering.

During the visit, Dato’ Onn Hafiz oversaw the handover of Johor Affordable Housing units at Taman Perbadanan Islam Rengit to 45 families. These comprised 19 Type B units, 16 Type C units, and 10 Type D units.

The handover shows the state government’s commitment to ensuring that economic growth translates into tangible improvements for ordinary Johoreans, and not just headline investment figures.

The broader significance

Batu Pahat’s inclusion in the JETP framework shows that Johor’s economic transformation ambitions extend beyond the JS-SEZ’s core footprint in Iskandar Puteri.

By proposing an AMP in Batu Pahat and connecting it to major road corridors, the state government is positioning additional districts to participate in and benefit from the investment wave that the JS-SEZ is expected to catalyse, thereby distributing economic opportunity across Johor rather than concentrating it in a single zone.
