Jobless single mum forced to vacate HDB rental flat for rental default of $2000

Transitioning, a welfare organisation dedicated to helping unemployed PMETs, highlighted the plight of a single mother who is being evicted from her rental flat for default on arrears. The woman who lives in Sengkang, said that she had not paid her rent for the past ten months because her ex-husband had not been paying her maintenance money promptly.

The woman who has two kids, sought help from the welfare organisation to mitigate her predicament. HDB had asked her to settle the full outstanding arrears of $2000 before 31st March. It served her notice to vacate her rental unit on 31st March if she failed to do so. She claimed that her family has got nowhere else to go if they were evicted – “no relatives and friends to help”.

Transitioning has asked the woman to negotiate with HDB for an installment plan and promised to help her as much as it could.
