The founder of City Harvest Church is in Indonesia to preach the Christian message and one church in Cipinang, Jakarta has pulled all stops in inviting him. The organiser arranged for police escorts to escort him to the church service.
Kong Hee said that it has become a tradition for him to preach in Indonesia during the Christmas season, and that he was humbled by how the church in Cipinang honoured him.
Kong Hee and six of his church leaders are appealing a conviction of misappropriating millions in church funds to promote his wife’s career in a mission known as the Crossover Project.
One of the appeal judges commented that if it was the church’s intention to evangelise, it could have used a cheaper method to do so. Justice Chan Seng Onn said: “It can be through Sun Ho singing, (or) it could be engaging, at a much cheaper cost, maybe K-pop (singers) and Kong Hee can come to the concert and then preach.”
The judges said that they needed time to go through the trial’s voluminous record and a judgment will be delivered at a later, as yet unknown, date.
