SINGAPORE: In a social media post on Tuesday (Nov 3), Baey Yam Keng provided an update about a young woman who had been injured in a recent fatal road accident along Tampines Ave 12.

Shortly after 10:30 pm on Oct 29, a blue Audi ploughed through a road divider and crashed into another car, as well as a motorcycle. The motorcyclist and his wife, who was pregnant, were killed. The couple, who were both 24 years old, left behind a six-year-old son.

The 30-year-old man who had driven the Audi was arrested and handed a total of nine charges. Aside from dangerous driving causing death and injury, he is also facing charges for using a vehicle that was deregistered and had a false licence plate, as well as for driving without a licence.

Mr Baey, the Mayor of North East District and Member of Parliament representing the Tampines Boulevard ward at Tampines GRC, wrote that together with grassroots leaders, he visited Mira, the 25-year-old woman who had been driving the other vehicle.

“I am relieved that Mira did not suffer any serious physical injuries, although she is seeking psychiatric treatment for the trauma she went through,” wrote the MP.

Additionally, the vehicle she was driving, which belonged to her father, had been badly damaged in the mishap and, as a result, needed to be scrapped. This has been particularly challenging for Mira’s family because the accident affected her father’s work, as he needs the vehicle to drive to Jurong Island.

Mr Baey wrote that he spoke to Mira and her family about the help they need, which includes legal advice and insurance claims.

"Hopefully our referrals would accord them the necessary assistance soon. I wish Mira a smooth and speedy recovery. My thoughts are also with the family of the couple who tragically lost their lives in the accident,” added the MP, who also wrote that he has asked for a meeting with relevant agencies to talk about possible measures that could be implemented along Tampines Ave 12 to prevent similar mishaps. /TISG
