In a video posted on the eve of the New Year, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that he is ‘confident’ Singapore can do well despite uncertain times. He said that he is making Singapore a City for All Ages and that his government has been strengthening ties with major partners to create opportunities for Singapore companies and Singaporeans.
He acknowledged that Singapore is in a difficult and uncertain period, but said that he is confident that Singapore will pull through, because of the spirit and resilience of our people.
Some Singaporeans however felt that what’s being done by the Singapore government was not enough.
Facebook user Sidney Soon said that considering our government is paid the highest salaries in the world only to generate 1+% economic growth as dismal performance and pathetic results which is totally unacceptable.
“It shows the incompetence of the incumbent government in addressing this state of affairs. Singapore can achieve much better results than this,” Sidney said.
Steve Ree commenting on the same report and in pointing to the negative economic growth asked how the Government was watching over Singaporeans. He said that it is unacceptable that bills for carparking and electricity were going up despite the weak economy.
Steven Theo saying that Singapore’s integrated resorts alone can generate 0.8 percent to 1 percent of GDP growth, asked what actually the Government had done to spur growth.
