A video of People’s Action Party Member of Parliament Baey Yam Keng putting on a Squid Games costume for Halloween has caught the attention of many online users. While some played along with the Halloween theme, others voiced out that they think the MP could use his time to do more things for Singaporeans than take such videos.

A Facebook page shared a TikTok video of Mr Baey on Friday (Oct 22). The 40-second clip featured the MP getting ready for Halloween, playfully putting on a costume from the Squid Games, a popular series on Netflix.

In the comments section of the Facebook video, while some played along, others took it a different way. “It’s a bit tasteless judging by the current economic situation,” wrote one netizen. “Too free, ah…part-time MP,” another wrote.

Others took a bit of a stronger tone, with one even saying, “Do something to help Singaporean (lives), lah.” Some netizens even went so far as to say that members of the ruling party don’t need costumes for Halloween. “No need costume, their appearance in public is already scary,” said one.

Furthermore, one netizen pointed out the toy gun in Mr Baey’s video and said, “Even if that is a toy gun, there is code and regulation to follow. And for Halloween, just wear regular attire and it will be scary enough.”
