UPDATE: Another life lost from Tuas Incineration Plant explosion

Singapore ― As of Sunday (Sept 26), the National Environment Agency (NEA) has confirmed that one of two employees who survived the Tuas Incineration Plant explosion, (TIP) has passed away.

The agency, which manages the incineration plant, stated that the victim was an executive engineering manager, and passed due to the critical condition of his injuries.

On the day of the incident (Sept 23), the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) revealed that it was a senior engineering manager who had died at the scene.

The Straits Times reported that all three victims were NEA employees who were conducting electrical maintenance work in the electrical switchgear room when the explosion occurred.

“The third officer, our engineering manager, continues to be given medical care in the hospital’s intensive care unit,” said the NEA.

They added: “All three NEA officers who were in the switchgear room are senior members of the plant’s electrical maintenance branch, each with more than 35 years in service, and have contributed at TIP for many years.”

The agency also confirmed that they are investigating the cause of the explosion with relevant authorities such as the Ministry of Manpower, SCDF, engineering experts and other technical agencies.

“Investigations are ongoing and more information will be made known once investigations are concluded,” the NEA said.

NEA has since assured the public that they are staying in contact with the victims’ families and providing the necessary assistance during this time. /TISG
