In terms of casting, Matt Reeves’ The Batman is coming together nicely.

Two months ago, it was confirmed that the brilliant director of War For the Planet of the Apes had cast Robert Pattinson in the role of Gotham’s Dark Knight.

Since then there has been plenty of rumours and speculation surrounding the casting of other characters.

It is said that Jonah Hill is in talks to play the iconic Batman villain, The Riddler while Jeffrey Wright of Westworld fame may play Commissioner Gordon.

These roles are not confirmed yet but there is a confirmation on the actress who will be playing the Batman villain, Catwoman.

According to Variety, Zoe Kravitz has landed the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman, beating out finalists Zazie Beetz (who starred in another DC film currently in cinemas, Joker) and Eiza Gonzalez (Jon Hamm’s girlfriend in Baby Driver).

Variety reports:

Kravitz will star opposite Robert Pattinson as Batman.
In recent weeks, the role came down to Kravitz, Zazie Beetz of Atlanta, Deadpool 2 and Joker, Baby Driver’s Eiza Gonzalez and Oscar winner Alicia Vikander. Ultimately, Kravitz won out, despite some worry about scheduling issues with Fantastic Beasts.

Catwoman has been iconic in the Batman comics for a very long time. The character is interesting, vicious, intelligent, morally ambiguous and oozes sex appeal. It has been brought to life on the big screen numerous times.

Catwoman has been played by Michelle Pfeiffer in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s grounded and realistic The Dark Knight Rises and Halle Berry in a forgettable movie.

Choosing Zoe Kravitz is a good decision as she is an actress with tremendous charisma.

While some of the films she’s starred in recently hasn’t been noteworthy (Rough Night, Fantastic Beasts), one only needs to watch HBO’s Big Little Lies to see what she’s actually capable of.  Kravitz previously voiced Catwoman in The Lego Batman Movie.

The movie is set for a summer 2021 release and will begin filming either later this year or early 2020. /TISG
