The three leaders made up the panel of judges for the event, which consisted of three rounds.

Prizes for the winners included cash prizes of $500, $300 and $100 for first to third places respectively, plus WP memorabilia.

“As a Parliamentary Opposition party, we appreciate that our role goes beyond critiquing existing policies to providing sound and credible alternative policy ideas. In this spirit, we designed this challenge to give youths a taste of parliamentary work and debate,” said Mr Giam.

Ms Seah noted in the video that aside from the cash prizes, participants will be able to work with the WP parliamentarians and “get a taste of what it’s like volunteering in the WP Policy Research Team.”

Mr Giam, who served as a Non-Constituency MP from 2011 to 2015 before becoming part of the WP’s Aljunied GRC slate in 2020, said that the panel is looking forward to participants’ adjournment motion speeches.

“But be prepared to launch a strong defence, as we will challenge your case,” he warned.

“So if you believe you can put forward a robust case and offer solutions to our policy challenge, then we invite you to make your ideas count,” Assoc Prof Lim added. /TISG
